New Gloria pelagic Trawl: Gloria XWide
Among the innovations presented at the flume tank session in Hirtshals last year was the new Gloria 1760m Gloria XtraWide, designed specially for mackerel. This new arrangement has been in the design process for some time and its proportions provide a spread of approximately four times its vertical opening. At the moment these trawls have spread-to-height ratio of around 3:1. Current trawls have a vertical opening of around 45 metres and a horizontal opening of 135 metres, while the new design will have the same 45 metre vertical opening and a spread of 180 metres, which is hoped will significantly reduce by-catches of herring taken with the mackerel.
