Hampidjan acquires 45% in Faroese fishing gear supplier Sílnet

In association with fishing company P/f Varðin, based at Gøta in the Faroe Islands, a 90% stake in fishing gear supplier Spf Sílnet, based at Borðey, from Kristian Sofus and his two co-owners. Kristian retains his 10% share in the company and will remain as the company’s production manager. Hampidjan and Varðin each have a 45% share in the company. Alongside the acquisition, the company’s shareholding has been increased significantly, making it possible to invest in suitable premises and the equipment needed to handle repairs and maintenance of pelagic trawls and purse seines.

Hampidjan CEO Hjörtur Erlendsson;
‘Hampidjan has produced and supplied Gloria pelagic trawls and codends to most of the leading Faroese fishing vessels, as well as supplying DynIce Warps and DynIce Data cables to the newer vessels in the fleet. Our co-operation with faroese operators has been highly satisfactory and we are delighted to be able to be able to service the fleet’s needs locally, in co-operation with Varðin, one of the outstanding Faroese fishing operators, as well as Sílnet’s founder Kristian Sofus í Lambanum.’

Sílnet was established twelve years ago and its net loft was based for much of that time in Gøta, but has now moved to an extensive 1900m2, 85 metre long building at the quayside in Klaksvík, where the staff can work on demersal trawls, pelagic trawls and purse seines.
Hans Jacob Paulsen is the company’s managing director and he brings with him extensive experience of the fishing industry, having worked with for many years with fishing gear and sales to Faroese fishing companies.
